It's a Guy Thing Too...

When you think of weight loss plans and dieting, your mind might automatically think of women. Women are thought of as being more likely to diet, watch their portions, and be more cognizant of their health. But men also are interested in improving their health and appearance and many men are looking for healthy ways to do so. At Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating, our focus is on creating meals that are suitable for anyone… no matter their gender, health concerns, or goals! It's a guy thing too!

We love getting contacted by customers who have reached their goals while on our healthy meal plans. It’s always inspiring to hear about how our program is making a difference in someone’s life and improving their energy, health, and overall quality of life.

Below we will share the stories of 4 men who have joined the Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating Program and surpassed their goals with the program. Many of them joined the program to help reach a healthy weight but found that they also saw improvements in their blood pressure, joint pain, relationship with food, their confidence, and more.


Zach Shaw - 1500 calorie vegetarian plan – Lost 70 pounds

If you live in our local area in the Illinois Valley, you may know Zach Shaw. He is a radio host on one of our local radio stations. Zach is a warm and friendly guy that has helped Seattle Sutton's over the years with spreading the word about our healthy meals on his radio show. Zach came to us back in 2019 when he wanted to see what our program was really all about - and see if could help with his  weight loss goals. Recently we caught up with Zach as he told us about his weight loss journey. Zach's words echo so many of our customers. We're so proud of the progress he has made and look forward to hearing more updates!

“I’ve been overweight my entire life, and when I started Seattle Sutton Healthy Eating I wanted to lose 20 or 30 lbs. Instead, I’ve lost 70!

I like to eat good food, that’s how my weight managed to get away from me in the first place, but with Seattle Sutton, I saw an opportunity to lose weight and get healthier without having to sacrifice taste, and that was important to me.

Throughout the years I’ve tried “fad” diets to lose weight easily, and they all had the same results: temporary weight loss followed by immediate weight gain. It was like putting a Band-Aid on a problem that required stitches, and with Seattle Sutton, I’ve found that the “stitches” I required were all about education and portion control. I’ve learned that I can eat delicious AND HEALTHY meals and feel full without eating until I feel bloated.

Now, over a year and a half later I'm still living a healthier, and better life. I have gotten control over how much and how often I eat and it makes a huge difference in the way I approach mealtime. Duane Sledz - 1200 calorie traditional plan – Lost 135 pounds

About a year ago we were contacted by a customer, Duane Sledz. In the winter of 2019, Duane got to what he called a "tipping point" where he had put on a lot of weight. When he was flying to Mexico for vacation he needed a seatbelt extender – he was embarrassed and humiliated.

He was at 347 pounds when he returned from that trip – saying that was enough and telling his wife that he was going to start Seattle Sutton – following in the footsteps of one of his favorite radio personalities – Lou Manfredini.

He started with Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating 1200 calorie plan on January 6th and weighed in after being on the plan for a little over 6 months. Duane had lost a total of 135 pounds and counting, blowing his original goal out of the water!! He is so happy, feeling healthy, and is grateful for this new lease on life.

Duane loves sharing his story and updates on his progress. We couldn’t be happier for Duane, his wife, and his three young daughters. These pictures of Duane show his amazing transformation. Here is what Duane has to share about his success on Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating and is hopeful to inspire others to start a healthier life.

“Shout out to everyone at SSHE! I started my journey after getting sick and tired of the fork getting the best of me. After 5 months, I was down an amazing 118 lbs. I went from a 54” waist to a 40” waist, a 4XL shirt to an XL. I haven’t felt this healthy and energetic in 20 years.

Chris Clark – 1500 calorie plan – Lost 56 pounds



Chris was dealing with  prediabetes, plantar fasciitis, sleep apnea, joint pain, heart concerns, and was struggling with his weight. He reported that the quality of his life was suffering too. He joined the program on the 1500 calorie vegetarian meal plan and lost 62 pounds and went from a 44 to 38 waist in just 6 months! After being on the plan his lab work is great, he is exercising 30 minutes every day and is exciting to reach his next set of goals.Chris Clark joined Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating in May 2020. He had memories of his mother being on the Seattle Sutton’s program when he was younger and after learning that he needed to make some changes for his health he decided to check the plan out for himself.

“I wake up every morning with joy in my heart because I made this change. This is not my mom’s Seattle Sutton’s, this is a totally different, FANTASTIC Seattle Suttons. It is a great menu and the meals are great!

My friends are noticing a difference, and my mom loves it! My daughter hugged me and she said, “Dad, your stomachs no longer in the way!”

I have lost 62 pounds! In that period of time, I just made a few slight changes. I started Seattle Sutton’s and I didn’t do anything else. Nothing else went past my lips and I was down 50 pounds!

When you go to the Dr. and all of a sudden when your blood pressure was high and your cholesterol wasn’t looking good, and your sugar was bordering diabetic and you come back and do your blood work, you already know how it’s going to go.

The Dr. called me and said, “I just wanted to let you know I got a chance to review your bloodwork and WOW you’ve made some changes!” It was great to hear that and to know that it’s all paying off.

Before I do anything else, I need to thank myself. Because really it was my commitment to this, to myself, and to better health that made this really happen. This point will be a highlight in my life. I went from 287 pounds to 225 pounds, wait till I hit 200 pounds!” -Chris


Rod Thorson – 2000 calorie plan – Lost 20 pounds

Rod came to Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating over a year ago, right when  COVID-19 began. Rather than picking up bad habits and gaining weight during the pandemic shutdowns, Rod starting eating healthy Seattle Sutton’s meals and lost 20 pounds!

He was surprised to notice other improvements in his health and energy levels while being on the meal plan other than losing weight. He chose the 2000 calorie plan which helped keep his energy levels up and kept him feel satisfied while still losing weight.

Rod enjoyed not having to run to the grocery store and felt that leaving the meal planning up to Seattle Sutton’s helped him to avoid temptations and impulsively buying unhealthy food.


"I've always been active but I'm a terrible grocery shopper. Shopping is even harder for few people and when the kids went to college I found myself going through the drive-thru too often. I was eating a low-quality diet and felt terrible. I would run out of energy and then grab more junk food.

Then I found Seattle Sutton! Because I'm busy and active I wasn't sure if 2000 calories/day would be enough, but it is! I never get a weak feeling anymore! I sleep better and I feel better mentally and emotionally. There are so many benefits besides weight loss that I didn't expect!
