Does everyone on the Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating program eat the same food?

Yes. All clients receive the same meals; but, there are two different calorie portions to chose from - 1,200 or 2,000 calories average per day, using the complete five week menu cycle (Includes recommended fat free milk).

What if I don't like certain foods?

SSHE's ultimate goal is to improve your eating habits. You need a variety of food for good nutrition. Eat to nourish your body, not just for taste. You will find that certain foods you thought you didn't like are excellent prepared the SSHE way.

How long can I stay on Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating?

You can be a SSHE client for as long as you wish! We believe SSHE to be a healthier eating plan than you could prepare for yourself on a regular basis. Let us do the work for you. We'll roast your turkeys, soak your beans, and bake your muffins. Meals include fresh fruits and salads.

Does it matter when I eat my daily meals?

Eat when your body tells you to eat, when you feel hungry. If weight loss is desired, don't eat just because it's mealtime. Save that delicious muffin for midnight, or eat some of your food every 2 hours if you desire. It doesn't matter when you eat your SSHE meals. What counts is calories in vs. calories out.

If I'm a vegetarian, can I still be on Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating?

Yes, we offer a 1,500-calorie vegetarian meal plan.

How long will my Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating meals remain fresh?

SSHE meals remain fresh 5 days from the day you receive them and should be consumed within that time period. Always keep your meals refrigerated at 35-40 degrees F.

May I eat Tuesday's breakfast on Wednesday or Wednesday's lunch on Tuesday?

Yes. Feel free to "trade" meals from day to day.

Are the Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating meals very spicy?

Not too spicy. We know clients' tastes vary. We have designed the taste to be moderate. Add seasonings (no salt) if you desire.

How can I stay on Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating when I travel frequently?

Place your meals in a cooler with ice packs. If your meal needs heating, many facilities (gas stations-motels) have microwave ovens for your use.

How many calories do your meals contain?

We offer 3 different calorie levels. There is a 1,200-calorie and 2,000-calorie per day traditional portion, as well as a 1,500-calorie per day vegetarian portion to choose from. This is based on our daily average of our 5-week menu rotation.

Do your meals include organic fruits and vegetables?

Some are organic, but not all because we serve such a variety and it is not always available.

Do you have counselors I could talk to?

We do not pretend to be counselors. If you have a medical question or concern, we suggest you consult your registered dietitian or physician. What we do is provide well-balanced, healthy meals. We have a registered dietitian that does all of our food analysis, every meal and every item we serve is analyzed on a periodic basis to ensure we adhere to the guidelines set forth by health and medical professionals.

Are SSHE meals okay if the film is domed (bubbled)?

Our airtight seal is in place to keep your meals fresh. Doming of the seal is normal and will not affect the quality, taste or freshness of your meals.

Is everything for a given meal in a single package?

Yes, we offer a preset menu of 105 different, freshly prepared meals in a 5-week rotation. Each meal is a complete meal. We recommend adding 2 servings of a low-fat dairy per day, if you enjoy dairy products (yogurt, skim milk or etc.).

Is there anyway for a visually impaired person to distinguish among the breakfast, lunch and dinner meals?

Yes, if you place an order, please let us know via phone at 1-800-442-3438 and we will accomodate you. We welcome any questions about our menus or individual meals.

Is there anyway for a visually impaired person to know if a given meal needs to be heated?

All meals are fully prepared. No raw meat is ever served. Prior to ordering each week, you are welcome to give us a call at 1-800-442-3438 and we can discuss each meal and our heating recommendations.

Are the heating instructions similar enough for different meals that each meal could be prepared without reading instructions (for a visually impaired person)?

Every meals is different, in fact, you'll love the variety. Some entire meals would taste best heated, while others will contain a salad or piece of fresh fruit. In other cases, a dinner roll might be present, so it would not need to be heated as long as the rest of the meal is heated.

What should I drink with this diet?

  • 6 glasses or more of water each day
  • 2 eight ounce glasses of fat-free milk daily for 1,200 calories
  • 3 glasses for 2,000 calories

Can I have a cocktail on a special occasion?

Yes, but limit the amount to 1 glass of red or white wine, 1 oz. of hard liquor or one light beer per day. They all contain calories.

Shall I take supplements?

No. SSHE believes you should never take supplements unless your doctor or dietitian has prescribed them for your specific medical need.

What if I'm invited out for dinner?

Go, and don't feel guilty! Just order carefully - salad with dressing on the side, baked potato, broiled fish or chicken, one serving of bread/margarine and fresh fruit for dessert. Drink sparkling mineral water with a twist. Freeze your SSHE dinner or give it to a friend. If you're dining at a friend's house, inform your host that you are on Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating and that you'll be bringing your own meal.

What about receptions or buffets?

Eat your SSHE meal before the event so you’re less hungry later. Or, make only one trip to the buffet line, limit portions and keep choices healthy (chicken, fish, vegetables, salad, etc).

How do I place an order?

First register or log in if you are already registered. Then, choose your meal plan and select pick-up or delivery if you reside in an area with a local distributor. If you live in our National Home Delivery area, shipping is only available.

Once you have made your selection, enter your billing information and submit. Your order will then be processed immediately through our secure payment processor.

Do you have an ordering deadline?

For orders placed through local retailers, please do so before 10 AM Central Time on Friday for pick-up/delivery the following Monday and Thursday. Some locations may be able to accept late orders if you’ve missed the order deadline. Your local retailer arranges payment and pick-up/delivery. Please call 1-800-442-3438 for store hours.

For National Home Delivery orders that are shipped via UPS, the deadline to order each week is 12 Noon Central Time on Friday for delivery the following Tuesday and Friday.

What if I missed the weekly order deadline?

Although we have a weekly deadline for orders, we’re sometimes able to accommodate a certain number of late orders. If you missed the weekly deadline, please call 1-800-442-3438 to inquire about availability.

What does a subscription ("recurring") order mean?

You may opt during the ordering process to select a subscription ("recurring order") which allows clients the choice to receive meals as long as they like, without having to re-order each week. To discontinue a recurring order, contact your local retailer (1-800-442-3438) before Friday to stop meals for the following week. 

Can I change my default location if I want to pick-up from a different retail location?

Yes, when you log in simply "change location" and select a new location by entering the zip code or searching for a nearby location on the map.

Is delivery available?

Yes, check with your local retailer about the time and cost of delivery to your home or office. Delivery is twice weekly. For National Home Deliver, check eligibility based on where you live or where you intend to have the meals shipped. All meals ordered through National Home Delivery are shipped by our third party shipping partner.

Why should I order 21 meals per week? (21 meals-7 breakfasts, 7 lunches and 7 dinners)

If you're interested in weight loss or healthy eating, let us do it all for you! You will feel less frustrated and have better results without planning, shopping and cooking.

Is there any possible alternative to 21 meals?

What is the minimum amount of weeks I can order?

It is a weekly program, so you may order for as many weeks as you like. We also offer half-week options.

What week menu will I be starting on?

Our menus rotate for 5 weeks without repeating meals during that time. So, the particular week your order is placed will determine what week you will begin with (for example, you could start with week C, then D, E, A, and then B).

May I cancel my order?

Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating meals are freshly prepared. After an order has been placed, your fresh fruit, produce and all the other ingredients are ordered. If you have a sudden emergency, please arrange for a friend or relative to pick-up your meals.

What are retail store location hours?

If picking up meals, please call to confirm the retail store hours.

What should I do if I'm delayed or unable to pick-up my meals?

Contact the local retailer or have someone else call on your behalf before the designated closing time if a delay should occur. If you ordered through National Home Delivery, you were provided with a confirmation. Please arrange with a friend or relative to receive your meals, so your meals don’t spoil. You may contact us at 1-800-442-DIET (3438) to inquire when it will arrive so you can make the necessary arrangements. Every effort will be made by us to provide you with excellent service.

Does insurance cover this plan?

It depends on your insurance company and the plan you have -- we’ve heard of instances where clients have had their insurance cover the cost of our meals. We recommend you contact your insurance company to find out if they offer this as part of your plan.

How much weight will I lose?

Unless you have a very unusual medical problem, weight loss and weight gain are a matter of caloric intake vs. caloric output. If you take in more calories than you use, you gain weight. If you take in less calories than you use, you lose weight. The SSHE 1,200 calorie plan is designed to induce a healthy weight-loss of 1-2 pounds per week on average (individual results may vary). Claims by other diet plans of 5, 7 or even 10 pounds per week are unrealistic and unhealthy. Adopting a healthy diet is the key to successful, long-term weight loss. Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating makes it easy!

I ordered the 1,200 calorie plan. My doctor said I should have 1,500 calories per day. What should I add?

The 1000 calorie plan plus two glasses of fat-free milk per day will equal an average of approximately 1,200 calories per day, using the complete five week menu cycle. Healthy choices may include the following: (numbers are approximate, see label when purchasing)

  • 70-100 calories: One serving of fresh fruit
  • 40-60 calories: One cup air popped popcorn
  • 100-200 calories: One cup yogurt
  • 100-150 calories: One half cup frozen yogurt
  • 80-120 calories: One medium baked or boiled potato
  • 40-100 calories: One cup green vegetable
  • 55-90 calories: One slice whole grain bread

How often should I weigh myself?

Weigh yourself only once a week, preferably on the same day of the week. We recommend being weighed on the same scale every time, at your SSHE distribution site by your local distributor. Weighing more frequently than once a week will not give an accurate picture of weight loss, and this may be discouraging.

Shall I choose the 1,200 calories or 2,000 calories per day? (average per day using the complete five week menu cycle, including recommended fat-free milk)

The choice is yours. If you need professional advice, Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating suggests that you consult with your physician, registered dietitian or other degreed nutritional consultant.

If I lose weight on SSHE, will I keep it off?

The honest fact remains - if you eat or drink more calories than you use, you'll gain weight. If you have been on SSHE in the past and gained some weight back, we will welcome you back.

I don't want to lose weight. Can I still be on Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating?

Yes. However, if you take in less calories than you expend (work, exercise, etc.), then you will lose weight. You may need to add calories in order not to lose weight. When necessary to add calories, keep choices healthy.

I am vegetarian and seeking weight loss. What do you suggest?

Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating has a solution for you.  Order the 1,500-calorie vegetarian plan and simply eliminate the suggested 3 servings of your own fat-free milk.  This will reduce the daily calories by approximately 270-300 calories per day.  You will experience successful weight loss only eating 1,200-calories per day.

What about food allergies?

Every SSHE meal includes an ingredients list on the container. If you think you may be allergic to an item/ingredient, please consult with your physician before consuming the item in question.

What can I do to treat a friend?

Why are there two different types of ingredient labeling on the meals?

Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating is licensed by the Department of Agriculture (USDA) in each state, which requires ingredient labeling and nutrition fact panels on meals containing chicken or turkey. The vegetarian and fish meals have ingredient lists on the security label, which is required by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

How cold should my refrigerator keep my meals?

35-40 degrees F. is the recommended temperature. If a problem occurs, be sure to check the seal on your refrigerator door.

Is Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating available everywhere?

Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating is available anywhere in the United States. We proudly offer National Home Delivery for customers who are not located within a local distributor's territory.

Are the meal containers recyclable?

Yes, our containers are recyclable. Flip the container over to learn more about what type it is and if it is recyclable in your area.

Do you offer low glycemic index food as part of the SSHE menu?

Yes, SSHE utilizes many low glycemic index (GI) foods throughout its menu. Focusing strictly on the GI of food may be misleading though. The GI should be used as just one of the many tools available to improve blood sugar control. It is not necessary to avoid foods with a high glycemic index, such as potatoes, since they have valuable vitamins and minerals. Examples of low glycemic index foods on the SSHE menu include: broccoli, green beans, yogurt, peppers, tomatoes, plums, peaches, apples, whole grain breads, kidney beans, oatmeal and barley.

Do you offer gluten-free meals?

We include whole grains as part of being a heart healthy diet; therefore we are not gluten free. Many who order our meals choose the 2,000-calorie plan and share with friends or family members (including items they feel they need to avoid). Some couples both order and simply trade items. For your convenience, all ingredient information is listed on each meal.

Is soy considered a healthy protein source?

Soy is a heart-healthy, lean source of protein and therefore we do serve meals that include soy. We are aware that there are theories, which seem to discourage or limit soy. We suggest you consult with your physician about the latest medical research stating the numerous health benefits of eating soy.

How does this program work?

You receive a total of 21 meals for each week you order, breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 7 days. A package will arrive twice during the week. The first package will contain 12 meals and you will receive it on Tuesday and the second package will contain 9 meals and it will arrive on Friday. Rarely deliveries might occur on another day due to unpredicted weather, etc. SSHE is not responsible for weather-related delays. 

How do I store the meals?

You store the meals in your refrigerator, not in your freezer, and when you are ready to eat them, you just heat them in the microwave. However, some meals don't require heating and can be consumed right from the container.

How do I pay for this?

Your National Home Delivery meals are purchased by credit card.

When do I need to place my order?

Deadline to order each week is 12 Noon Central Time each Friday in order to start receiving meals the next week.

What is the cost of each of the meal plans?

What happens when the package arrives at my door, but I am not home at the time to receive it?

UPS will leave your meals at your doorstep without a signature. When you arrive home, please place meals in your refrigerator. These terms apply to the UPS Shipper Release Policy:

  • UPS will make only one delivery attempt. The package will be left if no one is home.
  • UPS will not obtain a signature upon delivery.
  • A UPS delivery record will be conclusive proof of delivery.
  • The customer accepts liability for any loss or damage to the package after delivery.

What information do you need to send my meals?

We need a complete street address including apartment or suite number, city, state, zip code and the daytime phone number of the recipient, an alternative phone number (such as cell or home), an e-mail address and payment information.

What if I don't have complete and correct address information?

We need to have complete and correct address information to successfully deliver your package. If we send your order to an incorrect or incomplete address, your package will not reach you and you won’t be able to enjoy eating our healthy meals. If you need additional assistance, please call our customer service department at 1-800-442-DIET (3438) or E-mail us at corp@sshe.com.

Can I have my order sent to my office?

Yes, as long as you indicate it on your order where you would like it shipped. The package will require refrigeration upon delivery, so if your office doesn’t have such accommodations then you may want to consider a different option. SSHE is not responsible for packages once they have been delivered by UPS to you.

Can I have my order sent to my apartment building?

Yes, but if nobody is home to receive the package, UPS will leave the shipment. It is a good idea to be home when your meals are scheduled for delivery to your apartment. You may consider arranging another delivery address or delivery directly to your apartment office. SSHE is not responsible for packages once they have been delivered.

Can I send meals to a college dorm?

Yes, we strongly recommend you let the college student know the package is coming and to be on the look out for the delivery.

Can I send my order to a P.O. Box?

No, UPS does not ship to a P.O. Box.

Can you ship meals outside of the U.S.?

No, we do not service outside the U.S.

Does someone have to be home to sign for the package?

No, you do not have to be home if you are shipping to a single-family home, apartment or business as part of the UPS Shipper Release Policy. SSHE is not responsible for packages once they have been delivered by UPS to you.

How are SSHE Home Delivery meals sent?

Our meals are freshly prepared and are packaged in special containers, then placed in a shipping box with insulated material to keep it at the utmost quality and meet the highest standards of safety and quality. All meals are manufactured in USDA facilities. Everything is then shipped via UPS 1-Day Ground, Express or 2-Day Air.

How long can the meals keep in the shipping packaging?

With our special packaging, all meals are kept refrigerated for 36 to 48 hours. If you live in a warm weather climate, be mindful of that when receiving your package. We recommend that all customers refrigerate their meals immediately upon receiving them.

Can I put the meals in the freezer?

Our meals are freshly prepared and we do not recommend freezing them for optimal taste.

What time will my meals be delivered?

Packages are delivered on Tuesday and Fridays. An exact time of delivery cannot be given, since it depends where the delivery address is located on the UPS driver’s route.

Will UPS or Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating call before delivering my meals?

No, it is your responsibility to know a package is coming since you placed the order. We strongly advise you to arrange for someone to be available to place your meals in a refrigerator upon delivery, because the package is of a perishable nature and needs to be refrigerated upon delivery.

Do the meals remain at refrigerated temperature during transport to my door?

Yes, even though you typically receive your meals within 1-2 days, the meals are securely packed in boxes designed with insulation and gel-packs to keep the meals at refrigerated temperatures for several days to accommodate a rare UPS delay due to weather.

Are the frozen gel-pacs that are used in National Home Delivery recyclable and eco-friendly?

Yes, the gel-pacs are recyclable and eco-friendly! Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating makes gel packs especially for our National Home Delivery customers. Each gel-pac is 99.5% water. You can remove the outer plastic and place it in your recycling bin or garbage. If you put salt in the gel, it will dissolve the gel and turn it all into water for easy draining. You can also refreeze the gel-pacs to use in the future. If you ever need more, or know of a company who would like to purchase gel packs, please contact Ruth at ruth@sshe.com or 219-765-3395.

Will I receive a confirmation for my online order?

Yes, your order will be confirmed with an e-mail confirmation that contains your order and information on tracking your package, as long as you provide that information. We strongly recommend once you have placed your order to print out the final confirmation page indicating your order has been placed. And, to check your e-mail for your confirmation e-mail. If you order by telephone, we will provide you with an order number at the end of our call.

Do you offer the option to continually receive the meals without having place orders each week (recurring order)?

Yes, but you must select that as an order option when you place your order. Please inform the customer service representative on the phone when you place your order or make that selection when you place your online order. You have the option for this free automated service, which will be billed each week to your credit card. You must contact us if you choose to discontinue this service by our deadline of Friday at 12 Noon Central Time.

What if I have to cancel my order?

Once your initial order is placed, your first week may not be cancelled.

To alter your existing subscription (automatic recurring) order for the following week, please call 1-800-442-3438 or go to “manage order.” All orders are final on Friday, at noon CST.

How can I recycle my shipping materials?

Please check with your local recycling program. You may also look for a drop-off recycler for expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam packaging. To find one in your area visit epspackaging.org.
