Ottawa, Ill. (September 22, 2008) -- Seattle Sutton, RN, BSN, Founder and President of Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating has recently been appointed a member of the American Cancer Society’s CEOs Against Cancer.
CEOs Against Cancer was founded in 2003 by CEOs seeking to collaborate and make a difference in the cancer fight for their employees and their loved ones. Representing more than 75 Illinois CEOs and their 2 million-plus employees and dependents, CEOs Against Cancer partners with the American Cancer Society to provide the Illinois business community with information about cancer prevention and early detection; complementary services and programs for cancer patients and their caregivers; and employee programs for smoking cessation, physical activity and improved nutrition.
"While we have made great progress through research, education, advances in screenings and treatments, cancer remains the number one killer of working-age people in the United States," said Steven M. Derks, chief executive officer of the American Cancer Society, Illinois Division. "It is the costliest disease to employers when we consider medical care, absenteeism, and other ancillary costs. Seattle is passionate about the fight against cancer, and we welcome her support in this fight."
Sutton’s interest in the group is both personal and professional, since she is a 9-year breast cancer survivor and her only sister died of the disease at a young age. She also has two cousins who had the disease and one of them died from it.
"Because an estimated 565,650 people in America will die from cancer this year, something more has to be done to reduce those numbers," said Sutton. "I’m honored at being asked to participate in this prestigious group of executives who have a like goal to rid our society of cancer."
