Hi I’m Rene Ficek, registered dietitian nutritionist. Summer is here and it can be easy to get caught up in the fun and excitement of summertime, but keep these tips in mind as you as you aim to achieve your best self.

Summer Time Exercise

First plan your exercise to beat the heat. In the summer time, you need to think a couple steps ahead. Be a vigilant weather-watcher, and plan your outdoor exercise for early in the morning or later in the evening once it cools down.

Dining Out

And be smart about dining out. We tend to dine out a lot more when in this nice weather, but reduce the temptation to clean your plate by setting aside or wrapping up one-third of your meal. This simple tactic could subtract more than 500 calories per day.

Drinks to Avoid

Lastly re-examine your drink. The hot weather has us reaching for liquids, but please be careful. Stay away from those sodas and sugar-sweetened beverages as much as possible. Soft drinks are a major source of empty calories in the American diet, so just remember water is always your best choice.
