Healthy Tips for the Holidays

Hi, I’m Rene Ficek, registered dietitian nutritionist. December is an exceptionally hard time to eat well and stay healthy, which is why I want to offer a few quick, simple, easy tips to help you be your healthiest this holiday season.

Bring a Healthy Side Dish

My first tip is to bring your own healthy, light dish to every party. Whether it's a vegetable dish with some hummus, or a side vegetable dish, your fellow party mates will be happy to have a lighter dish to balance out all of the heavy stuff.

Drink As Much Water As Possible

My second tip is to drink as much water as possible, even if you're not thirsty. It helps to control hunger and also helps to cleanse your system. Tea and carbonated water are great options if you don't like to drink just the plain stuff. 

Watch Your Alcohol Intake

And my last tip is to really watch your alcohol intake. Not only does it contribute to a hangover, but it really has a lot of calories in it. So, avoid sugar sweetened beverages as much as possible, choose dry wine over sweet wine, and choose non-alcoholic mixers with hard alcohol. And try to drink water inbetween each of those drinks.
