Healthy Holiday Party Tips

Hi, I'm Rene Ficek, registered dietitian nutritionist. The holiday season is upon us and we want to provide some tips and tricks to help you feel your best at all those holiday parties.

Don't Go to a Party Hungry or Full

First, don't go to a party either really hungry or really full. You should be comfortable enough to enjoy some appetizers and the dinner but not too hungry. Having a little bit of snack with some fat and protein is ideal like a handful of nuts or a few pieces of cheese.

Don't Overdo it on the Sweets

Next, don't overdo it on the sweets. There are plenty of cookies and chocolates around this holiday season but try to keep it to a minimum. Eating a lot of sugar in a short period of time can cause a sugar spike followed by a sugar crash that can lead to some irritability. When you're not eating for hunger remember that a couple of bites is really all you need to fulfill a craving. 

Minimize Alcohol Intake

And, lastly, if you indulge in alcohol, try keeping it to a minimum to stay feeling your best. Try consuming water in between your drinks or try consuming water with your drinks such as a wine spritzer which is half wine and half club soda.
