Hi, I'm Rene Ficek, registered dietitian nutritionist.
November is bladder health month. We get a whole month to celebrate one of our most important organs, and we have to keep in mind that when we stay well hydrated, our bladder works the absolute best. And there are other ways to keep hydrated without simply chugging the H2O.
Fruit has an extremely high water content, so not only are you getting lots of vitamins and minerals and fiber when you eat a bowl of fruit, but you're also helping yourself stay hydrated.
And go easy on the alcohol. Alcohol increases fluid loss from the body but it also impairs your ability to sense those early symptoms of dehydration.
And sports drinks. Often times I suggest staying away from sports drinks due to the sugar content, but if you've had an intense workout where you're sweating a lot or when you've been in the sun too long, sugar and sodium are actually needed nutrients to get back to a well hydrated state.
