3 Red, White and Blue Superfoods to Eat

Hi - I’m Rene Ficek, registered dietitian nutritionist. With all the hotdogs, burgers and beers you are bound to have this month, you’ll want to add in a little something healthy. Working in some superfoods gives you a significant boost in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Lucky for us, there are plenty of red, white and blue superfoods available and in season right now.

Rasberries

First, we have raspberries which are high in vitamin K, magnesium and insoluble fiber which is good news for those looking to lose weight. Insoluble fiber provides a feeling of satiety.

Cultured Dairy Products

Next, we have cultured dairy products like yogurt. They’re rich in probiotics and always in season. The bacteria in yogurt helps to cultivate a healthy gut and fight inflammatory conditions.

Blueberries

And last but not least, we have blueberries. They are small yet powerful. In fact, they may have more antioxidants than any other fruit or vegetable. Anthocyanins, which is the pigment responsible for the blue color in blueberries helps your immune system by neutralizing free radicals.
