How does the Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating program work?

Our program offers a preset menu of 105 different, freshly prepared meals in a 5-week rotation. To reach the total calories for your plan, we recommend adding servings of low-fat dairy per day - 2 servings for our 1200 calorie plan and 3 servings for our 1500 or 2000 calorie plan. A serving of dairy can be replaced with another item of your choosing equal to 80-100 calories. Examples include low-fat yogurt, plant-based milk, a serving of fruit, or 3 cups of air-popped popcorn. If you choose to omit the milk servings without a replacement your meal plan will be 200-300 calories less. For example, if you choose the 1500 calorie vegetarian plan and do not add 3-servings of skim milk or a replacement, the meal plan would average 1200 calories.

To get started, simply select a daily calorie level plan that works for you. Options are the 1200 or 2000 calorie traditional meals, or our 1500 calorie vegetarian option.

Then choose how many meals you would like to receive. We offer meal packages by the full week with a total of 21 meals, the weekdays plan made up of 12 meals, or the weekend plan which contains 9 meals.

How are SSHE home delivery fresh meals sent?

Our meals are freshly prepared, packaged in special air-tight containers, then placed in a shipping box with insulated material to maintain their quality and freshness. This process meets the highest standards of safety and quality. All meals are manufactured in our USDA facility.

How long will my Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating meals remain fresh?

SSHE meals remain fresh 5 days from the day you receive them and should be consumed before the best by date on each meal label. Always keep your meals refrigerated at 35-40 degrees Fahrenheit. While it may impact the freshness of our meals, should you need to, you can freeze meals that do not contain fresh fruit or vegetables (in particular lettuce or spinach salads).

What is the recommended reheating method?

Generally, meals can be reheated either on a microwave safe plate or in the plastic container they come in for 1-3 minutes. Our containers are BPA and phthalate free, however, it is important to remove the plastic film from the top.

Keep in mind that every meal is different, and we do include meal preparation instructions on every label, related to that specific meal. Be aware that with some meals you will be required to remove some items such as fruit or other items that are not intended to be served warm.
It’s ok to be creative! You can reheat your meals with other methods than the microwave if you choose to do so. For example, our flatbread pizza meals are great reheated in a pizza or toaster oven.

Are SSHE meals okay if the film is domed (bubbled)?

Our airtight seal is in place to keep your meals fresh. Doming of the seal is normal and will not affect the quality, taste or freshness of your meals. Many times, the domed lid is simply caused by gas that is release from fresh vegetables and beans.

What should I drink with my selected meal plan?

We recommend:
    • 6 glasses or more of water each day
    • 2 eight ounce glasses of fat-free milk daily for 1,200 calories
    • 3 glasses for 1500 and 2,000 calories

What if I'm invited out for dinner?

Go, and don't feel guilty! Just order carefully - salad with dressing on the side, baked potato, broiled fish or chicken, one serving of bread/margarine and fresh fruit for dessert. Drink sparkling mineral water with a twist.

If I am still hungry or need a snack throughout the day, what should I add?

While we do not encourage snacking, we do realize that on occasion, increased activity can lead to the bodies need for a few more calories to get though the day. Healthy choices to add include the following: (numbers are approximate, see label when purchasing)
  • 70-100 calories: One serving of fresh fruit
  • 40-60 calories: One cup air popped popcorn
  • 80-130 calories: One cup low fat yogurt
  • 100-150 calories: One half cup frozen yogurt
  • 80-120 calories: One medium baked or boiled potato
  • 40-100 calories: One cup green vegetable
  • 55-90 calories: One slice whole grain bread

Are the shipping materials and containers recyclable?

I don't want to lose weight. Can I still be on Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating?

Absolutely! Our program is used by many for convenience reasons. However, if you take in less calories than you expend (work, exercise, etc.), then you will lose weight. You may need to add calories in order to maintain your current weight. Just be sure to choose healthy nutritious items.
