Ron's Hall of Fame Induction

Posted on 07/23/2012

My dear friend, Ron Santo is gone, but he is certainly not forgotten. He will live in the hearts of Cubs fans for a lifetime. Now he will live on in Cooperstown forever!

It has taken 32 years for him to finally be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame and I'm happy that he is finally getting recognized, even if it is posthumously. Not only was Ron a great ballplayer, sports broadcaster/announcer, juvenile diabetes advocate, family man, but a wonderful friend to many people who were lucky enough to have him in his life. He lived life to the fullest and loved every minute. He was a pure joy to be around.

I feel so privileged that I had the opportunity to meet him and to have made commercials with him. He was so nice, so much fun and will never be forgotten. Many people don't realize this, but we actually did those commercials together and from there we developed a friendship. He was always the most gracious person, in fact, whenever I made it to the friendly confines of Wrigley Field, he always took time to talk to me and usually pose for a picture or two. On several occasions, I had the honor of meeting his son. He was so helpful and took such good care of his dad. I was impressed with him and thought he was such a good son.

Ron was also a SSHE client from time to time. In fact, his love of a certain meal (our Acapulco taco pie) became his meal of choice. People would ask us all the time, what is Ron Santo's favorite meal? He made that meal so popular and did so on his own. Of course, we loved it. He truly made it famous. It will forever be his meal.

I'd like to congratulate the family of Ron Santo for his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He brought so much to so many and this honor will forever provide a legacy to the great man I knew and loved.
