This coming Saturday, August 30 th on Main Street in Marseilles, Ill., we’ll be celebrating the life of my beloved late husband, Dr. H. Kelly Sutton who passed away last fall. Everyone is invited to attend this community event, so please join us for the daylong activities.

The day’s events include:

  • 11 AM: Dr. Sutton memorial bridge walk benefitting the Marseilles Nursing Services. Register at the nursing services office, 227 Main Street at 10:30 AM. This is not a race; all are welcome to walk the bridge for a good cause.
  • 3 PM: Free trolley tours every half hour until 4:30 PM, picking up at Terry Bentz Buick on Washington Street.
  • 3 PM to 5 PM: Tour the former Marseilles High School (currently the elementary school).
  • 4:30 PM: Beer garden opens and music on Main Street by the Steve Sharp Band.
  • 5 PM to 7 PM: BBQ chicken dinner, for a $5 donation benefitting the city of Marseilles.
  • 5:30 PM: Desert booths by Marseilles churches.
  • 7 PM: Official clock unveiling led by the mayor of Marseilles, prayer dedication, Seattle Sutton and the Sutton children: Chris, Peter, Paula, Ruth and Sarah.

Kelly as we all called him, was a wonderful man and an amazing doctor. He delivered approximately 2,000 babies while in practice in Marseilles and he had 5,000 patients who ranged in age from babies to children and adults to seniors. He was a beloved “small town” doctor who took time with his patients and enjoyed practicing family medicine until he semi-retired from medicine in 1991 and completely retired in 1996 after helping the local hospital for a few years.

The reason we’re celebrating this great man, is simple: he loved Marseilles and the area people. He cared for them as a family medical doctor. He was their neighbor and their friend. There were few lives he didn’t touch in his 84 years on this earth. He was so incredibly special -- we just had to have a special day to celebrate this selfless man who loved life and all its wonders.

Please join us on Saturday, see our “kids”, grandkids, great grandkids, and all our wonderful friends, family and neighbors who are joining together to honor this wonderfully remarkable man I had the privilege of calling my husband for nearly 60 years.

Seattle Sutton, BSN, RN

She made healthy eating her mission in life long before anyone else did, in hopes of helping her own obese father. A registered nurse by training and entrepreneur at heart, she lives, eats and breathes everything about healthy eating and helping to improve people’s eating habits and overall health. She enjoys never having to bother with grocery shopping, cooking and counting calories. Her favorite SSHE meal, although it’s hard to pick just one, is the Potato Gnocchi with Basil Pesto Sauce.
