Well, just one week ago we welcomed our 10 Seattle Sutton's 2012 Slim Down contestants to Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating way of life. I hope their first week was filled with convenience and peace of mind that they are eating what health and medical experts recommend one should eat. And, since we do all the work for them...all the planning, shopping and cooking, I hope their first week was an easier transition for them for making their positive lifestyle change.
I'm pleased to report that in just 7 short days (only 168 hours) this group of dedicated people dropped a total of 116.5 pounds to date! That's one whole person between the 10 of them lost in just a week! Wow, I'd like to give you ALL a round of applause...way to go! That kind of effort is wonderful and it goes to show if you put your mind (and body) to it, you CAN do it!
Like I told the contestants last Monday night, there are going to be difficulties in changing old habits. Change can be difficult, but it can be done. Improving their health, little by little, pound by pound, habit by habit.
Contestants...let go of the soda, replace it with water. Ditch the high-fat dairy and replace it with the two glasses of recommended fat-free (skim) milk each day. Also, make sure you get enough water every day. People often think they feel hungry, but are truly just dehydrated and need to drink more water. Remember it doesn't matter when you eat your 3 meals a day, or if you break them into smaller meals, but do not add to our meal plan. It works if you let it work for you!
I've seen it time and again both as a registered nurse and as the founder of Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating, that people who are in it for the long haul are the ones who see the most success while making a lifestyle change. This is not just for 15 weeks (the length of the contest), rather this is to help you gain new, healthier habits and improve your health for the rest of your life.
Don't let self-doubt sabotage you with your effort. Do surround yourselves with positive, happy and supportive people. Have confidence in yourself that you can do. Proof is in the pudding, your first week you did great, continue to put yourself first and your health first. You will continue to see results.
Remember that there's nothing more important in life than your health. Without it, you have nothing. If you need anything at all, we're all just a call or e-mail away.
