Healthy eating is my personal mission. It has been part of me for as long as I can remember. One can say, it was important to me long before the rest of the world jumped on board with the idea. I’ve always been ahead of my time.
You see, my own father was obese. He struggled with his weight most of his adult life and eventually the complications and diseases associated with it, took its toll and took his life prematurely. He was only 72 when he died. I think he would have lived to be 100, if he wasn’t overweight. So, I understand and empathize with those who also struggle and their families.
Fast-forward to years before, when I was in my first year of college studying nursing at Jamestown College. I decided to take matters into my own hands. I was going to help my dad and mom, by preparing menus of healthy meals for them to make so my dad would lose weight and become healthier. I spent a great amount of time preparing and mailing them. That was in the 1950’s and I’ve being doing this for awhile now…more than 60 years and counting.
Unfortunately, circumstances were what they were in those days, and it was not fully understood how to control one’s calories and eat healthy portions. Helpings were heaped onto plates at mealtime. If you had it, you ate it! The sentiment that carried over from the Great Depression I suppose. Waste not, want not.
I am happy each day knowing I’m helping more people like my dad by providing portion-controlled meals. I am overjoyed when I am contacted about someone who has lost a significant amount of weight and is no longer saddled with complications from obesity.
My goal was simple nearly 30 years ago when I started the business that is now known as Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating: to help improve people’s eating habits and overall health. I’m living my dream, but I have so much work left to do. There are more people than ever who are obese.
She made healthy eating her mission in life long before anyone else did, in hopes of helping her own obese father. A registered nurse by training and entrepreneur at heart, she lives, eats and breathes everything about healthy eating and helping to improve people’s eating habits and overall health. She enjoys never having to bother with grocery shopping, cooking and counting calories. Her favorite SSHE meal, although it’s hard to pick just one, is the Potato Gnocchi with Basil Pesto Sauce.
