You may have seen a headline or two recently about an old ‘frenemy’ trans fats and wondered where it’s been hiding lately. Well, the one you love to hate is still lurking in convenience and junk food, as well as, in fast food near you! Soon, that may not be possible if the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has something to do about it.
According to numerous news reports, the FDA is seeking to ban the artery-clogging fat nationwide, taking off where former New York Mayor Bloomberg started in the Big Apple nearly a decade ago. At the time, Bloomberg was considered a pioneer and really thought of as a public health champion.
The restrictions by the FDA are set to be announced later this month and to officially phase out the unhealthy fats throughout the food industry.
This ban would certainly be a welcomed change and the health benefits for the public will be substantial over time. I am very much looking forward to hearing the FDA’s official announcement and restrictions of this terrible fat that can cause clogged arteries.
Way to go, FDA, you’re heading in the right direction.
